I'm sorry, but this whole situation makes me furious. First, please don't blame the police officers. There's only so much they can do. When he arrived home without her it should have raised more than one red flag. Police should have been notified immediately! His parents are his parents, but they should have cooperated from the start. Crimes against women have been ignored for centuries, not just a couple of years, but hundreds. We've been the lower species in the eyes of most males born prior to 1960-ish, and sorry to say, a few females too. It's about time we all stood up and SCREAMED to the high heavens! It's not okay to overlook us, it's not okay to treat us as weak, IT'S NOT OKAY TO ABUSE US! Even women in power don't stand up for women's rights the way they should. Is it because they too were born prior to 1960? ugh...
October 2 there is a women's march. I signed up, but you know what? I can't find anyone in Scranton, PA that did. There is nothing organized here.
The population has declined and the median age shows as 37, but there is a large population of transplants from Philadelphia and New York over the past few years that I suspect has driven that down. Read up on Sister Sneakers, she was one heck of a woman, but she attracted a lot of not so nice people here. A lot of hopeful Scrantonians have left, and continue to leave in droves. If you want to be successful, you can't stay here. Ask anyone that’s left... They miss the area, but they don’t miss the taxes, and the politics.
There are also a lot of non-profits here, and colleges. Yeah, The University of Scranton is considered a non-profit. Owns half the downtown area, and doesn't pay the taxes associated to those properties. Marywood University in the wonderful Green Ridge section of the city, where our current President Joe Biden spent some of his childhood. They own acres upon acres (upon acres) of property in that area too. We also have Lackawanna College, and The Commonwealth Medical School that was started by a group of physicians years ago, but was recently bought out and is now Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine.

"Residents of Scranton pay a flat city income tax of 3.40% on earned income, in addition to the Pennsylvania income tax and the Federal income tax. Nonresidents who work in Scranton pay a local income tax of 1.00%, which is 2.40% lower than the local income tax paid by residents." Sales tax in PA is 6% however, exempt items include food (not ready-to-eat); candy and gum; most clothing; textbooks; computer services; pharmaceutical drugs; sales for resale; and residential heating fuels such as oil, electricity, gas, coal and firewood. Needless to say, a lot of folks from NY and NJ LOVE to shop here. There’s a huge outlet 45 minutes outside of Scranton that enjoys just how popular the tax rate is.
You can purchase a beautiful home in Scranton for less that most surrounding areas. Why, because it's not such a desirable area anymore. With the pandemic, we’ve had a lot of New York City residents move to the area. NYC wages and Scranton cost of living is the perfect arrangement for them. And, with the $1T Infrastructure plan, there will be rail transportation from Scranton to NY again! (I can’t wait, cause the drive there sucks) I’m hopeful that things will change for the better. People will be smarter about the candidates they elect to represent them.
I’m sorry for the rant, must be all this freakin’ rain!!
